About BeHip Records

Our Philosophy

BeHip Records is the premiere Jazz and live music record label in Atlanta, GA USA. We are primarily focused on capturing the highest quality sound recordings Geets the Hip Bee! of live ensemble performances of art music in our world-class studio. BeHip Records is a partnership between Christopher Alpiar and Sean McLeroy with mastering engineer Larry Anthony providing the final quality control of our releases. We are based out of the renowned 800 East Studios in the Old Fourth Ward section of downtown Atlanta.

Our mission is to preserve art music for posterity and to be a major proponent of the continued proliferation of Jazz and other live art music and to remind the world that music is an organic, human event encompassing truth, emotion, spirituality and the human condition.

Most of our recordings are done live at our studio at the 800 East studio complex in Atlanta, with minimum in-room isolation, and without editing, overdubbing, and minimal processing and treatment other than recreating the natural acoustic setting of the room we are in. Think of BeHip recordings as a capturing of a live performance and less of a produced studio sound. This lets us capture and preserve the truth in the music, as accurately as possible - what was happening at *that* moment as a natural and organic event, rather than a large post production to create magically perfect music. Bands and artists able to thrive in this setting are of the highest caliber and their music has been wonderfully captured in a setting of the highest quality approach to real live music. We pride ourselves in having a world class facility that includes a wonderful main room with an asymmetric design and 30' ceilings capable of comfortably recording a 30 piece orchestra and five isolation rooms of various sizes. In addition to wonderful instruments, such as a Yamaha C7 grand piano, several Hammond organs with Leslie cabinets, a few Fender Rhodes keyboards, a Wurlitzer, multiple drum kits, and scores of amplifiers, we also have a top notch collection of the finest microphones and mic amps ever built including Neumann, AKG, beyerdynamic, Gefell, Sennheiser, AMI, Great River, SMG, and Focusrite. We can state with confidence that there is not a better environment to record live and acoustic music in the Southeast United States.

Sean McLeroy - President & Chief Engineer

Sean McLeroy is an unheralded sound engineer as well as a Jazz guitarist. He studied at the New School for Social Research in NYC where he studied with Junior Mance, Kenny Werner, Hal Galper, Ronnie Mathews, Cecil Bridgewater and John Basile among others.

His knowledge of recording Jazz in a traditional and modern context is on par with any of the top engineers alive today. He is unorthodox in his approaches to recording, continuously trying unusual but very sound approaches he really understands how to get the grit of real jazz while still making a pristine and balanced product.

Through his production company, SMG Productions, Inc., he builds his own microphone amplifiers and other studio gear in addition to modifying microphones and guitar amps.

Sean is one of those rare people that has a deep understanding of the music as a musician, of the audio and physics of the audio as a sound engineer and audio scientist, and a thorough understanding of mechanical and electronic engineering. This unique blend of qualities, paired with his passion for the preservation and proliferation of Jazz and other live music forms, as well as being a great guy to work with, makes him a tremendous asset as the Chief Engineer at BeHip Records.

Christopher Alpiar - CEO

Christopher Kennedy Alpiar is an award-winning saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer and media composer. His specialization as a performer is in the Jazz idiom with a particular emphasis on free-jazz and the Avant-Garde, but he is "...in love with every form of music made by humans". As a writer, his expertise is in large orchestral compositions and works for every form of ensemble in Jazz music. With his background equally balanced in Jazz and orchestral music, he is considered a composer's composer, who not only can communicate emotion with every audience, but never compromises the integrity of the art form. This truth is reflected in his ongoing tenure as the president of the International Alliance of Composers.

Chris has been a Jazz saxophonist for over 25 years. As an instrumentalist and studio musician, he has had the unique pleasure of recording as a sideman on hundreds of recording sessions and spent a significant amount of time touring Europe and South America. His experiences as a performer encompass nearly every genre of music currently catalogued, including, but not limited to, Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop, Alternative Heavy Rock, R&B, Acid Jazz, Reggae, Souca, Calypso, Salsa, Merengue, Coumbia, Big Band, Grunge, Heavy Metal, Ska, and Avant-Garde classical music. He has shared the stage with many Jazz greats including Joe Lovano, Bob Meyer, Matt Pavolka, Randy Brecker, Peter Erskine, Eliane Elias, Michelle Petrucciani, and Will Lee.

B. General Use of the BeHip Records™ web platform -- Permissions and Restrictions

BeHip hereby grants you permission to access and use the BeHip Records™ web platform as set forth in these Terms of Service, provided that:

1. You do not collect any personally identifiable information of others, including user names or email addresses, from the BeHip Records™ web platform.
2. You do not use the BeHip Records™ web platform for any commercial purposes without the prior written authorization of BeHip. You agree not to transmit or otherwise make available any unsolicited advertising, promotional information, bulk e-mail or other solicitation. You agree not to solicit, for commercial purposes, any users of the BeHip Records™ web platform with respect to their User Comments.
3. You do not use or launch any automated system, including without limitation, "robots," "spiders," or "offline readers," that accesses the BeHip Records™ web platform in a manner that sends more request messages to the BeHip servers in a given period of time than a human can reasonably produce in the same period by using a conventional online web browser. Notwithstanding the foregoing, BeHip grants the operators of public search engines permission to use spiders to copy materials from the site for the sole purpose of and solely to the extent necessary for creating publicly available searchable indices of the materials, but not caches or archives of such materials. 8. You do not transmit or otherwise make available on or through the BeHip Records™ web platform any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable, as solely determined by BeHip.
9. BeHip reserves the right to change or discontinue any aspect of the BeHip Records™ web platform at any time, for any reason, and without notice to you.
10. BeHip reserves the right to suspend or terminate a user's access to the BeHip Records™ web platform, without prior notice and at BeHip’s sole discretion.
11. This list of permissions and restrictions, along with the other terms discussed below, is not intended to be complete, but merely illustrative. We reserve the right in our sole and final judgment to determine whether your conduct violates conduct requirements for the BeHip Records™ web platform.

C. BeHip Registered User Accounts

In order to access some features of the BeHip Records™ web platform, such as, for example, BeHip artist fan clubs, mailing lists, interactive blogs or any part of our online store checkout process, you have to become a Registered User, which will also create a user account. As a Registered User, you agree to be bound by the following terms:
1. When creating or modifying your account, you must provide accurate, current, and complete information. We reserve the right to disallow use of any user name that we deem offensive or inappropriate. You will be responsible for preserving the confidentiality of your password and for all actions of persons accessing the BeHip Records™ web platform through any username/password assigned to you. You must notify BeHip immediately of any breach of security or unauthorized use of your account. You may never use another’s account without permission.
2. As a Registered User you may submit comments on various BeHip blogs or other material (collectively, “User Content”) to the BeHip Records™ web platform. BeHip reserves the right, but does not assume the obligation, to delete, move, condense, or edit such User Content for any reason and without prior notice. BeHip also reserves the right to suspend or terminate a Registered User's access for posting User Content.
3. You are solely responsible for your own User Content and the consequences of posting or publishing it. You affirm, represent, and/or warrant that: you own, or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, and permissions to use and authorize BeHip to use, all patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights in and to all User Content you submit to enable inclusion and use of such User Content in the manner contemplated by the BeHip Records™ web platform and these Terms of Service.
4. You retain all of your ownership rights in your User Content. However, by submitting User Content to BeHip, you hereby grant BeHip a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable, perpetual, and transferable license to use, reproduce, store, distribute, prepare derivative works of and display your User Content (and your user name) in any medium in connection with the activities and operations of BeHip, its affiliated entities and successors. You also hereby grant each user of the BeHip Records™ web platform a non-exclusive license to access your User Content through the BeHip Records™ web platform, and to use, reproduce, and distribute such User Content for such user's personal, non-commercial purposes. You understand and agree that BeHip may retain, reproduce, distribute and otherwise use for any purpose copies of User Content that has been removed from the BeHip Records™ web platform. The above licenses granted by you are perpetual and irrevocable.
5. BeHip does not endorse, authorize or ratify any User Content, or any opinion, recommendation, or advice expressed therein, and BeHip expressly disclaims all liability in connection with User Content. BeHip does not permit copyright infringing activities and infringement of intellectual property rights on its BeHip Records™ web platform, and BeHip reserves the right, but does not assume the obligation, to remove any content from the BeHip Records™ web platform if notified that such content infringes on another's intellectual property rights.

D. Your Use of Content on the Site

In addition to the restrictions above, the following restrictions and conditions apply specifically to your use of content on the BeHip Records™ web platform.

1. The content on the BeHip Records™ web platform (other than your User Content), including without limitation, the text, software, scripts, graphics, photos, sounds, music, videos, interactive features and the like (collectively, “BeHip Content”) is owned by or licensed by BeHip. Similarly, the trademarks, service marks and logos contained on the BeHip Records™ web platform are owned or licensed by BeHip ("BeHip Marks”). Except as otherwise provided in these Terms of Service, the BeHip Content and the BeHip Marks may not be downloaded, copied, reproduced, distributed, transmitted, broadcast, displayed, sold, licensed, or otherwise exploited for any purpose whatsoever without the prior written consent of BeHip. BeHip reserves all rights not expressly granted in and to the BeHip Content and the BeHip Marks.
2. The BeHip Records™ web platform is made available for your personal, non-commercial use only. As part of such use, you may display, download and/or print pages from the site; you may link to the BeHip Records™ web platform; and you may forward BeHip Records™ web platform materials to others for personal, non-commercial uses that are reasonably related to the BeHip Records™ web platform’s purposes.
3. You understand that when using the BeHip Records™ web platform, you will be exposed to BeHip Content, User Content, and other third-party content from a variety of sources, and that BeHip makes no warranty about the accuracy, usefulness, safety, or intellectual property rights of or relating to such BeHip Content, User Content, or other third-party content. You further understand and acknowledge that you may be exposed to User Content that is inaccurate, offensive, indecent, or objectionable, and you agree to waive, and hereby do waive, any legal or equitable rights or remedies you have or may have against BeHip with respect thereto.
4. The BeHip Records™ web platform may contain links to third party websites that are not owned or controlled by BeHip. BeHip has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party websites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave the BeHip Records™ web platform and to read the terms and conditions and privacy policy of each other website that you visit.

E. Digital Millennium Copyright Act

If you are a copyright owner or an agent thereof and believe that any BeHip Content or User Comment infringes upon your copyright, you may submit a notification pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) by providing BeHip’s Copyright Agent with the following information in writing (see 17 U.S.C 512(c)(3) for further detail):

• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;

• Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled and information reasonably sufficient to permit BeHip to locate the material;

• A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;

H. Ability to Accept Terms of Service

You affirm that you are either more than 18 years of age, or an emancipated minor, or possess legal parental or guardian consent, and are fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, affirmations, representations, and warranties set forth in these Terms of Service, and to abide by and comply with these Terms of Service. In any case, you affirm that you are over the age of 13, as the BeHip Records™ web platform is not intended for children under 13.

I. Miscellaneous

These Terms of Service shall be governed by the internal substantive laws of Washington, D.C., without respect to its conflict of laws principles. Any claim or dispute between you and BeHip that arises in whole or in part from the BeHip Records™ web platform shall be decided exclusively by a court of competent jurisdiction located in Washington, D.C. These Terms of Service, together with the Privacy Policy and any other legal notices published by BeHip on the BeHip Records™ web platform, shall constitute the entire agreement between you and BeHip concerning the BeHip Records™ web platform and supersedes prior agreements, if any, between you and BeHip relating to any matter dealt with in the Terms of Service. If any provision of these Terms of Service is deemed invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such provision shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these Terms of Service, which shall remain in full force and effect. No waiver of any term of this these Terms of Service shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or any other term, and BeHip’s failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms of Service shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. These Terms of Service, and any rights and licenses granted hereunder, may not be transferred or assigned by you, but may be assigned by BeHip without restriction. This Agreement and the rights and obligations created hereunder shall be binding upon and inure solely to the benefits of the parties hereto and their respective successors and assigns, and nothing in this Agreement, express or implied, is intended or should be construed to confer upon any other person any right, remedy or claim under or by virtue of this Agreement.

You and BeHip agree that any cause of action arising out of or related to the BeHip Records™ web platform must commence within one (1) year after the cause of action accrues. Otherwise, such cause of action is permanently barred.

BeHip Records Privacy Policy

BeHip Records™ (“BeHip”) has created this privacy policy to explain how information is used that you may provide while visiting this website (“BeHip Records™ web platform”) and to demonstrate our firm commitment to Internet privacy. By using or accessing the BeHip Records™ web platform, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected online through the BeHip Records™ web platform and does not describe the ways in which we may collect or use information obtained offline or through any means other than our BeHip Records™ web platform.

HOW AND WHEN WE COLLECT INFORMATION

Activity That Doesn’t Require Registration. You can view content on the BeHip Records™ web platform without registering or providing any personal information. When you visit in this manner, we automatically obtain information from you about the name of your Internet service provider, the browser and type of computer you are using, and the website that referred you to us. In addition, we use a “session” cookie to identify you while you are on the BeHip Records™ web platform, if cookies are enabled on your computer. Activity Requiring Registration. Certain activities on the BeHip Records™ web platform require you to register. To become a registered user, we ask you to provide your name, email and billing information (for BeHip online store members). Comments Posted to Site. Any personal information or content that you voluntarily disclose online becomes publicly available and can be collected and used by others. Financial Information and Payments. We use a secure server for processing payments and financial information. BeHip staff log in to the secure site, retrieve the information and process it using our in-house credit card processing equipment. BeHip does not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.

If you choose to use the BeHip web store or make an online donation, you will have to provide your credit card billing information. As this information is collected and transferred over the Internet to our secure server, it is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, the security technology that is designed to protect sensitive information. Our donation pages display the Verisign Secure Site Seal to assure you that our BeHip Records™ web platform is authentic and that all transactions are secured by SSL encryption. If you are purchasing items or making a donation, the credit card information that you provide at the time of sale is used only to process your purchase or donation and will not be used for any other purposes.

We do not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. We encourage you to talk to your children about safe and responsible use of their personal information while using the Internet. Uses of Personal Information
